EQECAT Releases Preliminary Report on Japan Earthquake & Tsunami
EQECAT, a subsidiary of ABSG Consulting Inc., released preliminary discussion of impacts from the March 11, 2011, M8.9 Miyagi event. A massive, magnitude 8.9 earthquake struck the Japan Trench megathrust fault off the eastern coast of Honshu Friday, March 11 at 2:46 p.m. local time. The quake struck about 80 miles (125 kilometers) off Japan's eastern coast, approximately 240 miles (380 kilometers) northeast of Tokyo. Damage from this event is focused on the prefectures of Chiba (northern), Ibaraki, Tochigi, Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate (southern). The city of Sendai (1 million people) experienced the worst damage. Over 12 million people (10% of the total population of Japan) have been significantly affected by this event.
This is the second CatWatch notification/update issued by EQECAT for this event.
Economic losses continue to rise as significant earthquake-related events develop, including damage from numerous fires, and an explosion at a nearby nuclear plant. Total economic losses will likely exceed $100B USD. Key components of this will be extensive property damage to residential and commercial occupancies and restoration of critical infrastructure.

ABS Consulting Holds NMSAC Meeting at Arlington Office Location
The National Maritime Security Advisory Committee (NMSAC) met on January 19 and 20, 2011, at the ABS Consulting office in Arlington, Virginia. NMSAC provides advice, consults with, and makes recommendations to the Secretary of Homeland Security, via the Commandant of the Coast Guard, on matters affecting national maritime security. The Committee consists of 21 members who have particular expertise, knowledge, and experience related to maritime security or port operations. The April NMSAC meeting is also scheduled to be held in the Arlington office.
ABS Consulting Presents at 2011 NPRA Annual Meeting
J.S. (Steve) Arendt, Vice President, North America Process Industries, of ABS Consulting will be presenting "PSM Compliance is Not Enough!" on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. during the 2011 NPRA Annual Meeting on March 20-22, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas.
