Henrique Paula
Senior Vice President, Global Process Industries
Henrique Paula, PhD, is the Senior Vice President, Global Process Industries, of ABS Consulting. Prior to his current position, he served as Vice President, Middle East and Asia Pacific Operations (2009-2010), Asia Pacific (2007-2008), Risk Consulting International (2003-2006) and South America (1999-2002).
Prior to joining ABS Consulting, Dr. Paula worked for JBF Associates (JBFA), one of the world's leading process safety management (PSM) firms that was acquired by ABS Group of Companies Inc. in 1998. During his 15 years at JBFA, Paula served in a variety of roles from research scientist, systems engineer, project manager to senior technical director.
Dr. Paula received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Instituto Nacional de Telecomunicações, Brazil; master's degree in Nuclear Science from the Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares, São Paulo, Brazil; and his PhD in risk analysis from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee.
With 30 years of engineering experience, Dr. Paula's expertise is in risk management/PSM activities and risk and reliability analyses. He participated in more than 100 projects in a variety of industries from offshore oil and gas to nuclear to the petrochemical industry. He authored or co-authored more than 100 reports and papers for leading trade journals and industry associations and served as guest editor for a special issue of the journal Reliability Engineering and System Safety. A certified reliability analyst, Dr. Paula has provided consulting and training services in 30 countries.
