Between 70-80 percent of accidents and catastrophic events are caused by human error, which often result in large public and environmental consequences. The process of fully integrating the human element into facility design and system operation is part of a robust risk management strategy to reduce operational and life-cycle costs, and prevent loss.
ABS Consulting's Human Factors Engineering (HFE) Group helps eliminate or mitigate hazards, failures and financial loss from human error through comprehensive engineering support to improve safety, operation, maintenance and resilience of the system. Risk Analysis - provides customers HFE support for risk analysis by incorporating human factors into HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, and other risk management tools, and by participating in PSM, SEMS and SMS implementation and auditing.
Safety in Design - provides support by applying HFE/SID standards to systems design. This may include various criticality analyses, fire and gas dispersion analyses, material handling, evacuation, escape and rescue analyses, and other services for system safety at the design stage.
Critical Incident Response - provides human factors and mishap reconstruction subject matter expertise in the root cause analysis efforts.
Training Program - focuses on the capabilities and limitations of human operators in complex tightly coupled systems to include sensation and perception, memory and cognition, anthropometry, human-machine interfacing, human error models, and the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS).
