Alan D. Swain

Alan Swain is a primary founder and proponent of human reliability analysis (HRA), beginning with the development of the Technique for Human Error Rate Prediction (THERP). After his application of THERP in the first major probabilistic risk assessment of a nuclear power plant (in WASH-1400), he expanded his HRA methodology in NUREG/CR-1278, Handbook of Human Reliability Analysis.
Dr. Swain has continued his work as a lecturer and consultant since retiring from his post as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories in 1987.
