James Maes is the Director of Port Services for ABS Consulting. His portfolio includes providing security assessments and plans, safety programs, environmental stewardship, third party assessments and training services to foreign and domestic ports.
Mr. Maes is a retired Coast Guard Captain with over 26 years as a commissioned officer. He is the former Sector Commander and Captain of the Port for Miami, which includes the Port of Miami, Port Everglades, Port of Palm Beach and the Miami River. Most recently, he was the Assistant Port Director for Safety and Security at the Port of Miami. He has considerable experience in maritime transportation issues, strategic planning, organizational management, crisis communications and innovative problem solving.
He is currently engaged in ABS Consulting teams working on port-wide risk assessments for bay area ports in California; Houston-Galveston, TX; Jacksonville, FL; Louisville, KY; Pittsburgh, PA; Cincinnati, OH; Charleston, SC; and Corpus Christi, TX.
