Mike Roberts is a Senior Engineer and the Manager of Consequence Analysis Services for ABS Consulting. He has 16 years of experience in hazard analysis and risk assessments of chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, pulp and paper, and nuclear facilities.

His experience includes performing qualitative and quantitative hazard analyses using a variety of techniques (failure modes and effects analysis, hazard and operability analysis, and fault tree and event tree analyses); performing consequence assessments (source term, dispersion, and fire/explosion modeling); and developing process safety and risk management programs for nuclear, chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas processing, and pulp and paper facilities.

Mr. Roberts also has extensive experience in developing hazard analysis documentation and documented safety analyses (safety analysis reports, preliminary safety analysis reports, and basis for interim operation documents) for U.S. Department of Energy facilities.

Mr. Roberts is a coauthor of Compliance Guideline for EPA's Risk Management Program Rule (published by the American Chemistry Council and the American Petroleum Institute [API]), Risk Management Program Guidance for Petroleum Refineries (API), and Risk Management Program Guidance for Exploration and Production Facilities (API).

Mr. Roberts participated in the Kanawha Valley hazard assessment project, overseeing the technical review of the consequence analysis results and providing technical guidance to assist 14 chemical facilities in preparing hazard assessments for public disclosure. He has also provided risk management program (RMP) advice to the East Harris County Manufacturers Association RMP Group in Houston, Texas (approximately 100 member companies), the Texas City RMP Group in Texas City, Texas (7 member companies), and the Jefferson County RMP Group in Louisville, Kentucky (approximately 40 member companies).
