Raymond (Randy) A. Freeman
Senior Risk/Reliability Engineer
Randy Freeman is a Senior Risk/Reliability Engineer, recently retired from ABS Consulting. He has more than 25 years of industrial experience in reliability, risk analysis, safety, process design, control system design, and risk management in the chemical industry. His work has involved the specification, design and management of highly hazardous process systems. He received his bachelor of science degree, his master of science degree, and his doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Missouri - Rolla, all in Chemical Engineering.
Dr. Freeman has managed and participated in numerous hazard and operability studies, system reliability and safety analyses, and probabilistic risk assessment studies. He has extensive experience in risk management program development. He helped establish the OSHA Process Safety Management compliance program for Monsanto and was the director of the EPA Risk Management Program compliance effort for Solutia.
Dr. Freeman is the principle lecturer in ABS Consulting Training Services course on safety integrity level evaluations. Dr. Freeman was one of the members of the ISA S84 committee that developed the S84.01 standard. Dr. Freeman was a Senior Fellow at Monsanto/Solutia before his retirement in 1999. He was one of the primary developers and instructors of the Monsanto/Solutia Interlock Guideline Standard and associated training course.
He has been an active member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Center for Chemical Process Safety Quantitative Risk Assessment Subcommittee since 1986. He has helped publish several CCPS guideline books including the Guidelines for Chemical Process Quantitative Risk Analysis and was the project manager for the CCPS Loss Prevention CD-ROM set.
Dr. Freeman is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and was elected to the University of Missouri Academy of Chemical Engineering in 1998.
