Combining two or more LEADER project files
You can use the Copy Utility to combine two LEADER project (.LDR) files into a single .LDR file, as follows:
- Open the first .LDR file in LEADER
- Make a backup of this file (File > Save backup as...)
- Start the Copy Utility (Tools > Access Utilities > Copy Utility)
- Browse to select the second .LDR file, then click Open
- Select all the sections (click on the first section and then Shift+click on the last section)
- Select all the types of data you want to copy
- Click the Copy button
- Return to LEADER and refresh each worksheet, master list, and the Navigator pane to view the revised contents of the first .LDR file. This is now your combined .LDR file
Copying a row of data rather than copying the text in a cell
LEADER uses the standard Windows clipboard for plain text and the LEADER Clipboard™ for entire records (rows). LEADER decides which clipboard to use based on whether you are in edit mode. You are in edit mode when you click in a cell and your cursor is blinking. To exit edit mode, press Enter to accept your changes or press Esc to undo your changes in that cell. When you exit edit mode, the highlighted row is ready to be copied. Click on Help in LEADER for more details about using the LEADER Clipboard, copying deviations, copying analysis sections, etc.
Help file does not display when located on server
To correct this issue, download and install the latest version of HazardReview LEADER.
If Microsoft Security Update 896358 has been installed on your machine, you may not be able to open LEADER Help (or any other HTML Help files) if it is located on a server (the typical location for network license setups).
The following Microsoft Knowledge Base article explains the purpose of Security Update 896358 and suggests a variety of possible workarounds to balance (1) the need to view HTML files located on a local network with (2) the desire for heightened network security:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892675/
In this Microsoft Knowledge Base article under "Example 2: Use the MaxAllowedZone entry to enable a security zone," it describes the registry setting that will allow access to HTML Help files located within the "Local intranet zone." As recommended by Microsoft, make sure to back up the registry before you modify it.
Printing your shorthand list
Click on the Edit Shorthand button on the toolbar, go to the File Location tab to determine the filename and location of the shorthand file currently being used.
Close LEADER and then open Microsoft Access and open the shorthand file in Access.
(Note: When browsing to open the file in Access, you may need to specify "All Files (*.*) " in the Files of Type box. Also, Access may ask you whether you want to Convert or Open the database. Choose Open, and click OK on this and any subsequent messages.)
This file contains two tables. The "Words" table contains the ShortHand and AutoCorrect lists. The "AutoType" table contains the AutoComplete list. To publish only the ShortHand list, do the following:
- Open the Words table.
- In the Type column, right-click on one of the "SH" entries and choose Filter by Selection.
- Click and drag on the column headers to select both the OldWord and NewWord columns.
- Click Tools > Office Links > Publish It With Microsoft Word.
- Format the table to your liking in Word, and then print the Word document.
Note: You could also just select the table in Access and click File > Print, but publishing to Word provides better formatting options.
Publishing unassociated items in a cause-by-cause worksheet
When publishing a deviation in cause-by-cause (CBC) mode, any consequences, safeguards, and action items that are not associated with at least one cause are not published. This is by design under the premise that a CBC analysis begins with a cause and that items not associated with a cause are meaningless. However, if items are inadvertently not associated with a cause, this can result in a report with missing data.
Therefore, before publishing worksheets that have one or more deviations in CBC mode, you should audit the CBC associations and correct any unassociated items. LEADER's Search Utility makes this quick and easy, as follows:
- Open the Search Utility (Tools > Access Utilities > Search Utility).
- Click on the Advanced Search called "CBC deviations having non-associated items."
- View or print the report, which shows where unassociated items exist in your project file.
- Locate and correct the unassociated items in LEADER.
- For any items that are intentionally not associated with a cause but still need to be published, add a dummy cause (e.g., "(No cause identified)") and associate the items with that cause.
"Select Data Source" dialog appears after creating a new project file
This is caused by a missing registry setting that stores the location of the LEADER Library. To correct this issue, download and install the latest version of HazardReview LEADER.
Sharing a standard report format across your company
General formatting of document headers and footers used in reports can be customized by editing the report template (Tools > Customize Templates > Report Template...). This allows you to edit and save the Word document template (Leader.dot) file, which can then be copied to other machines or to a shared network location for use at other workstations. For example, you may want to insert your company logo into the document header.
Formatting of worksheet headers and columns is done in the Publish to Word Wizard (File > Publish to Word...). Start the wizard and click Next until you reach the Worksheet Report Settings page. Here, you can edit the current settings and then save those settings to a text file that can be copied to other machines or to a shared network location for use at other workstations. Several example settings files are included in the Leader4\PublishSettings folder.
Sharing your shorthand list with others
Click on the Edit Shorthand button on the toolbar and go to the File Location tab to determine the filename and location of the shorthand file currently being used. Click the Browse button to open the folder where the file is located. Select and copy the file (by pressing Ctrl+C), and then browse to a network location or a removable device (e.g., a USB drive) and paste the file there.
CAUTION: LEADER will not allow you to delete the shorthand file that is currently in use. However, it is possible to delete the current shorthand file/path outside of LEADER (e.g., using Windows Explorer while LEADER is not running). Doing so may require reinstalling LEADER if the file/path cannot be restored (e.g., if the file was located on a server that no longer exists).
Shorthand file does not exist at selected path
Deleting a folder containing the shorthand file that is currently in use by LEADER will cause an error. Before taking such action, users should first select the new shorthand file/path in the Edit Shorthand dialog in LEADER. Otherwise, LEADER may have to be reinstalled.
Unable to publish a worksheet report
Microsoft has documented a conflict between a function in Word and a function in Excel that have the same Global Unique Identifier (GUID). Because of this conflict, some users may initially experience an error when attempting to publish a Worksheet report to Word. This occurs only when, during the installation of Microsoft Office, Excel is installed after Word is installed. Reinstalling Word or repairing the Office installation usually corrects this issue.
To correct this issue, download and install the latest version of HazardReview LEADER.
Unable to send action items in Lotus Notes
The installation routines for some versions of Lotus Notes do not correctly register all of the files required for automation of Lotus Notes from other programs, such as HazardReview LEADER. If you know Lotus Notes is installed and working correctly on your machine but you cannot send action items to Lotus Notes from LEADER, you may need to manually register the following file (located in your Lotus Notes program folder):
...\notes\nlsxbe.dll
To register this file (you may need administrative rights)...
- Click the Windows Start button (bottom left corner of screen).
- Click Run.
- In the box, type regsvr32 "[PATH]\notes\nlsxbe.dll" (substitute your actual Lotus Notes directory path)
- Click OK. You should see a message indicating that the registering of the file "succeeded."
Exception 429 message displays when starting the software
In general, this type of error indicates that the software is not installed completely or properly. Please send the exception message to the LEADER Software Team for troubleshooting.
