ABS Consulting Wins ISPS Consulting Services Contract
for Panama Canal Authority (ACP)

Under the auspices of
IMO, a new comprehensive maritime security regime which includes
a new International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS
Code) is scheduled for implementation in July 2004.
The Panama Canal is a 50-mile
long, three-step locks waterway connecting the Atlantic and
Pacific oceans across the Isthmus of Panama. The Panama Canal
Authority (Autoridad del Canal de Panamá) "ACP" is
the autonomous entity of the Government of Panama tasked with
the administration and operation of the Canal. ACP strategic
directions calls for the implementation of these international
regulations in its services with the aim of minimizing or
where possible eliminating security threats to people, operations,
environment, functions, infrastructures, economic activities
and ships within the operating areas of the Panama Canal.
ABS Consulting has been awarded the contract
for Security Consultant Services for the Implementation of
ISPS Code at the Panama Canal. The fast track project is to
be executed and completed by 31 May 2004 well before the deadline
of July 2004. The Scope of Work will encompass performance
of the following activities:

Security Assessment of over 25 Canal facilities

Documentation of an ACP Security Plan

Design training programs and train ACP personnel
-
Provide a customized ACP Security LEADER® (ACPSL®)
software tool to document, audit, maintain and update
ACP Security Assessment and Security Plan.

Prepare training drills and conduct exercises to test
the overall Security Plan
