ABS Consulting Engineer to Receive Medal for Hazard Analysis Work in Slovakia

(Houston, TX---) On March 19, 2002, ABS Consulting's Dr. Kenneth W. Campbell will be awarded the "100 Years of Seismology in Slovakia" commemorative medal at a ceremony in Bratislava, Slovakia. The medal is in recognition of Campbell's scientific contribution to and cooperation with Slovakian seismologists on their probabilistic seismic hazard analysis of the Bohunice Nuclear Power Plant. The analysis was performed in accordance with current International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) standards and was accepted by the IAEA without modification.

The award will be presented as part of Centennial Seismology Day activities. The ceremony precedes a conference in Bratislava to promote seismology to physicists, scientists and mathematicians. The seminar will be attended both by professionals and students of these disciplines. Dr. Campbell, as one of a distinguished panel of international scientists, will present a topic on time-dependent probability entitled, "Poissonian and non-Poissonian Models of Earthquake Activity in Seismic Hazard Assessment."

Dr. Campbell, Vice-President with ABS Consulting's EQECAT Inc., has over 30 years of professional experience in seismology. He is responsible for developing seismic hazard models and seismic input for EQECAT's risk assessment software, portfolio loss studies and securitization risk analyses for the insurance and finance industries.
