What is Consequence Analysis?

Consequence analysis is used to estimate the magnitude of health effects, facility/equipment damage, economic losses, or environmental impacts associated with accidents involving hazardous materials (toxic, flammable, explosive, radioactive, etc.).

Specific components of consequence analysis are: (1) estimating release rates to the environment (pool evaporation, for example), (2) atmospheric dispersion analysis, (3) fire or explosion analysis, and (4) estimating the effects that a release might have on buildings, employees, or the public.
