Specialty Services
Structural Risk Engineering provides a variety of related
services pertaining to property risk assessment and risk
reduction.
-
Plan-Check
Our team of experienced and licensed structural engineers provides plan-check
and peer review services for a wide range of facilities, including schools, hospitals
and prisons. These services are provided to ensure the structural design meets
the intent of applicable codes, standards and other client-specified criteria.
We have developed a cost-effective and efficient process for handling the hundreds
or thousands of documents inherent in the design and construction of facilities
in today's complex world. We pioneered the use of internet-based list-servers
to communicate with team members working on a project to ensure that everyone
is reviewing and working with the latest set of documents and comments. Discussion
of issues and resolution of comments are therefore handled in a very expeditious
manner.
-
Forensic Engineering and Expert Witness Services
Structural Risk Engineering employs nationally-renowned engineers who are
familiar with various types of structural failures and collapses resulting from
either natural or manmade catastrophes. Our services in this area are backed
up by state-of-the-art technology and computer-based analysis of structural systems.

Security Vulnerability Assessments
Following 9/11, there has been a push to have various organizations, companies,
and public agencies undertake anti-terrorism assessments of vulnerabilities to
their facilities and security systems. This not only involves perimeter fencing
and alarms, but more complex systems such as a facility's structural capabilities
to resist blast loading. The Structural Risk Engineering group has provided a
number of such security vulnerability assessments to public and private sector
clients.

Real Estate and Insurance
Real estate, a major source of investment and lending activity for pension funds
and life insurance companies, has become a global commodity as investment managers
seek the best returns and a geographic diversification of risk. The creation
of securities backed by real estate, from individual major buildings to portfolios
of single-family mortgages, has further distributed the ownership of real estate.
Structural Risk Engineering provides investors with the assurance that properties
in which they invest meet established quality standards and acceptable levels
of risk from natural hazards.
The insurance industry provides the vital financial
protection against regional property losses that could threaten a
corporation's worldwide operations. Insurance, particularly
for property loss and business interruption, is an important
part of every major corporation's risk management program.
We are experienced in assessing virtually every kind of facility, from commercial
buildings to complex chemical and petrochemical plants. This experience enables
us to assist real estate companies, and insurers and re-insurers to quantify
their exposure to loss and to develop methods for estimating and reducing aggregate
exposures to natural and process-related hazards on a portfolio or country-by-country
basis.
Given the current challenges facing the insurance industry and the fluctuations
in the insurance cycle, a risk manager can provide the best and most cost-effective
protection for an organization by combining a proactive property risk-reduction
and loss control program, with a well-placed property insurance program. We can
assist you with such a comprehensive property risk and loss control program.
